The Ham, more commonly known as Hero-Ham (ヒーローハム), is a hamster superhero who has a strikingly similar appearance to Boss.
Character description[]
Hero-Ham is a mysterious hamster that dons a large, brimmed cap, red sunglasses, a flowing red scarf, and a blue cape. He is courageous, always coming to the rescue whenever the Ham-Hams find themselves in a sticky situation.
Hero-Ham first appeared shortly after Boss departed on his journey (which occurred in I'm Parting, Clubhouse!). It is made rather obvious that Hero-Ham is really Boss in disguise; however, the Ham-Hams do not recognize him, viewing him as a mysterious hero. He continues to help out other hamsters for a few episodes, not revealing his true identity; despite that, deep down, he really wants to return and play with the other Ham-Hams.
He is finally revealed to be Boss in Here I Am, Clubhouse!; in the episode, four Ham-Hams are eaten alive by a giant caterpillar named Sweetgo. Hero-Ham flies inside of Sweetgo's mouth and rescues the hamsters - during which, Hamtaro finally recognizes him as Boss, and addresses him as such. Boss says that he hasn't found himself yet, and wanted the Ham-Hams to forget about him. The Ham-Hams plead with him to stay, and they all agree that he has more than proven himself. Boss drops the disguise and runs towards Hamtaro, hugging him with tears in his eyes.
Boss occasionally returns to his Hero-Ham persona in following episodes; particularly around Otome's Crew, who were still unaware who Hero-Ham really was.
Trivia[]
- While The Ham never appeared in the English dub of the anime, his English name is stated to be "The Ham" on his Friend Card in Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games. Furthermore, by typing "The Ham" into the Hamha Machine, Boss walks up to Hamtaro and says "Huh?" before walking away.
- In later episodes, he is shown to have a motorcycle with a side car. This may be a reference to the Kamen Rider tokusatsu series, where all of the heroes have motorcycles.
